Ruiz Leads RiverHawks at MWSU Holiday Inn Express Invitational

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Northeastern State wrapped up its fall season Tuesday at the MWSU Holiday Inn Express Invitational, finishing 17th overall with a two-round total of 669 (329-340) at the St. Joseph Country Club.

Freshman Maria Ruiz led the RiverHawks with a 14-over-par 158 (77-81), tying for 17th in the 100-player field. Boh Greenwood followed in a tie for 36th at 163 (79-84), while Talya Samir tied for 64th at 168 (87-81). Laia Llorens rounded out NSU's lineup with a 180 (86-94), placing 99th.

Head coach Scott Varner said the team battled challenging conditions throughout the event.

"Scoring was high due to weather and a tough golf course — for every team," Varner said. "Maria competed hard. She's been a bright spot all fall as a freshman — reliable and accountable. Boh has been a late and needed addition, a very talented kid. Talya struggled at the end of the fall after showing good promise in the early tournaments.  All three newbies have shown the ability to help us. We simply couldn't overcome our fourth counting score all fall."

The RiverHawks will return to competition in the spring portion of their 2025 schedule.
