BROKEN ARROW, Okla. -- Northeastern State concluded their fall schedule with a fifth-place finish at the Tulsa Cup on Tuesday.
The RiverHawks moved up two spots on the event's final day, scoring a 295 in the third round to finish with an 868 (288-285-295), edging out Arkansas Tech (870) and Minnesota State (872) for the top five's final spot.
Mateo Castro paced NSU individually and tied for 11th across all competitors with a 215 (73-69-73).
Juan Vergel would tie for 25th with a 219 (77-70-72).
"Mateo is growing up right before our eyes. [He had a] really good tournament," head golf coach
Scott Varner said, also adding that "Juan took some steps forward this week."
Nathan Biais finished with a 221 (74-74-73) and
Ian Wilcoxen was a stroke back with a 222 (73-72-77).
Will Livermore ended the event with a 226 (68-76-82) amid third round struggles.
"[I'm] proud of our guys," Varner said. "[We dealt with] horrible and miserable conditions. Our kids showed some mental and physical toughness. [Our] young team is getting better. We are trending in a good direction."
Men's Golf returns in February and will compete in three events prior to the MIAA Championships in April.
