Smith and Brown reach double figures in exhibition play at Missouri State

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Northeastern State saw continued preseason action, falling to Missouri State in a 75-57 result Tuesday night in an exhibition.

The RiverHawks closely trailed the hosts at the end of the opening period (15-13), limiting the Lady Bears to makes on just five of 15 shots (33.3%) across the first ten minutes. The visitors would struggle to a ten-point effort in the second quarter on 2-of-9 (22.2%) shooting and fell victim to a -15 scoring differential to take a 17-point deficit (40-23) to the half.

NSU would trail by as much as 21 (44-23) early in the third quarter before mounting a 21-10 run to bring the differential to ten (54-44) entering the fourth quarter. The Lady Bears would score 11 of the game's next 14 points to place the final result out of reach.

As a team, the RiverHawks shot 18-of-51 (35.3%) from the field and connected on 7-of-22 (31.8%) three-point attempts. After starting 8-of-15 at the free throw line, the team would convert on all six charity stripe shots in the fourth quarter. 

McKenzie Smith would pace the RiverHawks in scoring with 16 points on a team-best six made field goals, while Annaston Brown closely trailed in scoring with 15 points and four three-point connections. Smith would also lead NSU on the glass with six rebounds. Snowda Watie was responsible for three of the team's eight assists.

Northeastern State begins official play on Nov. 14 in Weatherford, Okla. in a matchup against Oklahoma Baptist.
