WICHITA, Kan. --
Sydney Taylor scored late in the first half, but Northeastern State couldn't slow Missouri Western's second-half surge in a 3–1 loss Thursday in the MIAA Tournament semifinals at the Stryker Sports Complex.
Taylor brought the RiverHawks level in the 43rd minute, finishing her 10th goal of the season after NSU built steady pressure and capitalized on a defensive lapse. Missouri Western had taken the early lead in the 20th minute when Rosemary Pujado knocked home a rebound.
Northeastern State (12-7-1) generated eight shots and four on goal, with
Jaclyn Barritt and
Hannah Anderson each testing Griffons goalkeeper Morgan Byrd. NSU also earned five corner kicks, including a late run of set pieces as it searched for an equalizer. The RiverHawks, however, were unable to convert their chances.
The Griffons (11-2-7) pulled away after halftime. Pujado scored again in the 66th minute, and Kendall Knisley buried a penalty just over a minute later to push Missouri Western's lead to 3–1. NSU goalkeeper
Rebecca Partyka recorded one save.
The loss ends Northeastern State's run in the conference tournament, snapping a five-match winning streak.
