Northeastern State Starts 4-0 for First Time Since 2011, Tops MSU Denver

TOPEKA, Kan. – Northeastern State is off to its best start in 15 years, riding a balanced attack and a double-double from newcomer Jazmin Adams to a 78-68 win over MSU Denver on Friday at Lee Arena.

The RiverHawks are 4-0 for the first time since the 2010-11 season and never trailed after the opening minutes, building a 14-point halftime lead behind strong defensive pressure and a 23-point second quarter. Northeastern State forced 26 turnovers and turned them into 30 points.

Adams, a junior forward in her second game at NSU, delivered 12 points and 10 rebounds, anchoring a frontcourt that outscored the Roadrunners 32–24 in the paint. She also added two blocks.

Snowda Watie made her presence felt on the perimeter, matching a career high with six steals while adding six points and two assists. 

McKenzie Smith and Deyanna Douglas each scored 15 points to pace Northeastern State. Smith added six rebounds, while Douglas went 5-for-5 at the free-throw line before fouling out. Reese Shirey chipped in eight points and five assists, and Annaston Brown added 11 off the bench as NSU's reserves outscored MSU Denver's 32–22.

MSU Denver (0–3) was led by Jadyn Watts with 13 points and Mikylah Espinosa with 12. The Roadrunners made a late push, scoring 26 in the fourth quarter.

Northeastern State returns to action Saturday at 2 p.m., facing Southwest Baptist in Topeka as part of the Washburn Classic.
