TAHLEQUAH, Okla. —
Xavier Glenn poured in a season-high 31 points to lead Northeastern State past Mississippi College 86–68 on Saturday afternoon at the NSU Event Center in the first-ever meeting between the programs.
Glenn was unstoppable from the opening tip, knocking down 14 field goals — tied for the second most made by any MIAA player this season — on 23 attempts while adding five rebounds in 36 minutes. His hot start helped the RiverHawks (5–2) score the first six points and never trailed in a wire-to-wire victory. Northeastern State shot 46% from the floor and outscored the Choctaws 42–28 in the paint.
Ethan Blackmon added 15 points and 14 rebounds for his second double-double of the season, giving NSU another steady interior presence.
Taven Washington chipped in 10 points, five assists and three steals, while
Nehemiah Weber scored nine and also handed out five assists.
The RiverHawks surged ahead 39–33 at halftime behind 15 first-half points from Glenn, then broke the game open early in the second half with a 13–5 run sparked by fast-break buckets and defensive pressure. NSU forced 19 turnovers and converted them into 16 points.
Mississippi College (3–3) was led by Phil Nelson's 21 points, while Avaughn Johnson posted 18 points and 15 rebounds. But the Choctaws struggled to keep pace with Northeastern State's tempo and physicality, particularly on the glass, where NSU held a 43–35 advantage.
Northeastern State's bench contributed 16 points and helped keep the momentum steady as Glenn continued to score at will. His third 3-pointer of the afternoon pushed the lead to 39–31 late in the first half, and NSU controlled the matchup from there.
The RiverHawks return to action Sunday in Springfield for an exhibition against NCAA Division I Missouri State at 2 p.m.
