Men's Soccer closes regular season with home matches against Rogers State, Newman

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State men's soccer team enters its final week of the regular season hosting critical matches against rivals Rogers State on Thursday and then Newman on Saturday evening for Senior Night.

The RiverHawks (8-6-2, 5-5 GAC/MIAA) are fighting to keep their GAC/MIAA postseason chances alive and are tied with Newman for third place in the league standings with 15 points.  Southern Nazarene, which handed NSU a 4-1 loss on Saturday evening, is a point back in fifth place. 

To clinch a spot in the GAC/MIAA postseason on Thursday, the RiverHawks will need a win against Rogers State.  As it stands, Fort Hays State and Rogers State have already clinched their spots in the postseason.

History with the Hillcats
  • The first meeting this season ended up as a 1-0 Rogers State win at Claremore.
  • The RiverHawks have a record of 4-10-3 against the Hillcats, 2-4-2 at home.
Scouting the Hillcats
  • No. 17 Rogers State (10-2-4, 6-2-2 GAC/MIAA) secured their GAC/MIAA tournament spot last week with a 4-0 victory over SNU.
  • The Hillcats allow 0.69 goals per game and have a .833 save percentage.

History with the Jets
  • Newman has the upper hand on NSU this season, defeating the RiverHawks 4-2 at Wichita back in September.
  • The RiverHawks are 8-3-1 when facing the Jets in conference play.
Scouting the Jets
  • Newman (7-4-5, 4-3-3 GAC/MIAA) is 1-3-2 on the road this season and is second in the GAC/MIAA with 1.75 goals per game.
  • The Jets only picked up three points last week with a 3-2 win over Harding and a 1-0 loss to Ouachita Baptist.
