Balanced Attack Lifts Northeastern State Past Truman State, 90-81

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Northeastern State put together one of its most complete offensive performances of the season Sunday, defeating Truman State 90-81 at the NSU Event Center.

The RiverHawks (6-4) shot 49.2 percent from the field and scored 49 points in the second half to pull away from a Truman State team that stayed within striking distance most of the afternoon. Northeastern State led 41-33 at halftime and answered every Bulldog push after the break.

Xavier Glenn led NSU with 22 points, adding six rebounds while going 8 of 20 from the field. Ethan Blackmon and AJ Reed Jr. each scored 18 points for the RiverHawks. Blackmon added seven rebounds, while Reed chipped in three assists and three steals as Northeastern State turned defense into offense throughout the game.

NSU finished with 24 fast-break points and scored 18 points off Truman State turnovers. The RiverHawks also controlled the paint, matching the Bulldogs with 42 points inside while converting 24 of 26 free throws.

Taven Washington added 10 points and three assists, and Dylan Tea scored 10 points off the bench, knocking down two 3-pointers. Northeastern State's bench contributed 28 points overall, helping maintain momentum when starters rested.

Truman State was led by Julian Brown with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Marquis Carver-Smith and Quientan McCafferty each scored 12 points. The Bulldogs shot 36.4 percent from 3-point range but were undone by 13 turnovers and foul trouble in the second half.

Northeastern State returns to action Wednesday, Dec. 17, when it hosts Missouri Valley at 7 p.m. at the NSU Event Center.
