RICHARDSON, Texas — Northeastern State closed its non-conference schedule with a 66-60 victory over UT Dallas on Wednesday in the first meeting between the two programs.
The RiverHawks used a strong third quarter to gain separation, outscoring the Comets 21-17 coming out of halftime to turn a one-point game at the break into a working margin. NSU carried a four-point lead into the final period and made enough plays defensively down the stretch to secure the win.
McKenzie Smith led Northeastern State with 18 points, while
Gabrielle Tilley added 13.
Gracy Shieldnight chipped in 10 points and recorded the first double-double of her career, leading NSU on the glass in a performance that marked the most rebounds by a RiverHawk since Feb. 10, 2024.
Shieldnight's rebounding presence helped Northeastern State control the boards and limit UT Dallas' second-chance opportunities, as NSU matched the Comets basket for basket late in the fourth quarter.
With the win, the RiverHawks improved to 10-2 overall, while UT Dallas dropped to 5-6.
The game concluded Northeastern State's non-conference slate as the RiverHawks now turn their attention to MIAA play. NSU opens conference action Saturday hosting Pittsburg State at 1:30 p.m.
