Northeastern State Lands Trio on Super Region 4 Teams

GOLDEN, Colo. -- Three members of the Northeastern State football team earned postseason recognition with selections to the D2CCA Super Region 4 teams announced Thursday. Marvelous Owens and Cam Woods were named to the First Team, while Mo Foketi earned a Second Team nod from the Conference Commissioners' Association.

As the nation's only NCAA Division II Independent, the RiverHawks were ineligible for traditional conference honors and were evaluated solely on their on-field performance. Despite not competing in a conference, Northeastern State secured the third-most selections in Super Region 4, and its two First Team honorees matched the total of a ten-member league.

Cam Woods was selected as a First Team tight end after recording 47 receptions for 800 yards and eight touchdowns. The senior averaged 17 yards per catch and posted two 100-yard performances, including a 200-yard, three-touchdown outing against West Florida.

Marvelous Owens earned First Team recognition at cornerback. A national leader in pass defense, Owens totaled seven interceptions and 11 pass breakups. He recorded an interception in four straight midseason games and notched a season-high four breakups against McKendree.

Mo Foketi, the national leader in punting average at 45.9 yards per kick, was named to the Second Team. The sophomore tallied 13 punts of 50 yards or more and placed 10 kicks inside the 20-yard line. He appeared in just eight games, as NSU did not attempt a punt in three regular-season contests.

The RiverHawks conclude their season Saturday at 1 p.m. when they host East Central in the First Americans Bowl in Tahlequah.
