EDMOND -- Northeastern State couldn't keep pace with fifth-ranked Midwestern State, falling 4-0 in a neutral-site matchup Saturday afternoon.
The RiverHawks (0-4) fell in doubles play, dropping two of three matches. The No. 2 doubles pairing of
Annika Kleinhans and
Sofia Kotliarova fell 6-0, while the No. 3 team of
Lucia Bontempo and
Camila de Michele lost 7-5, securing the doubles point for the Mustangs (4-0). The No. 1 doubles match featuring
Tegan Heaton and
Adel Ismagulova went unfinished.
In singles, Midwestern State clinched the match with straight-set victories at the top three positions. Jessica Binzari defeated Ismagulova 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1, while Hannah Yip edged Heaton 3-6, 6-4, 10-0 in a hard-fought battle at No. 2. At No. 3 singles, Sofia Giraldo took down Kotliarova 6-1, 6-4.
Northeastern State returns to the court next weekend for an exhibition match with Central Arkansas on Saturday.
