Northeastern State Falls Short At Rogers State

CLAREMORE --  Northeastern State struggled offensively in the second half, scoring 24 points across the final two quarters in a 64-61 loss to Rogers State in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association play on Wednesday night.

After entering halftime with a slim 37-36 lead, the RiverHawks (10-17, 6-12 MIAA) faced increasing defensive pressure from the Hillcats. The third quarter proved particularly challenging, with Northeastern State managing only 12 points while committing several costly turnovers. Despite forcing nine turnovers from Rogers State in the period, the RiverHawks could not convert those extra possessions into significant scoring opportunities.

Despite the struggles in the fourth quarter, the RiverHawks challenged the Hillcats in the final three minutes.  Leading by ten points, RSU committed five turnovers and kept the door open enough for Annaston Brown to drill a three-pointer with five seconds remaining to make it a 62-61 contest.  The rally was too late and the Hillcats iced the game with a pair of free throws.  There would be enough time for NSU to make one last gasp to tie the game, but a shot attempt missed.

Defensively, Northeastern State remained active, recording 13 steals and forcing 23 total turnovers from Rogers State. Snowda Watie and Brennan Kirchhoff each contributed three steals, disrupting the Hillcats' offensive rhythm. However, Rogers State responded with efficient shooting, hitting nine three-pointers and converting 72% of their free-throw attempts to hold off the RiverHawks.

Deyanna Douglas led Northeastern State with 16 points and seven rebounds. Annaston Brown added 15 points off the bench, knocking down three shots from long range. Alex Hill contributed nine points and seven rebounds,

The RiverHawks will conclude their regular season on Saturday with a visit to Edmond to see Central Oklahoma.
