Baseball faces another in-state road test at Southeastern Oklahoma

TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State travels to Durant, Okla. to play a midweek contest at Southeastern Oklahoma State.

The RiverHawks (0-3) enter Wednesday's contest after being dealt losses at the hands of Missouri-St. Louis (5-4), Southeastern (10-9) and Oklahoma Baptist (13-5) at the 2025 Edmond First Pitch Classic across Sunday and Monday afternoons. In the middle game against the Savage Storm, the RiverHawks fell behind in an early 6-0 deficit before charging back to tie the matchup at nine in the top of the eighth. The bottom half of the frame saw the Savage Storm power forward the go-ahead score. Gage Williams led NSU with three hits in the loss to SEOSU, while Diego Murillo homered in the one-run setback.

Across Sunday and Monday, Murillo and Williams recorded base hits on a third of their at-bats, in addition to Holden Yoder. Murillo led the team with four hits over the first three contests, while Yoder and Tanner Almond each homered, too. Xavier Sanchez tallied a team-high four RBI. On the mound, Braxton Jones struck out eight with no walks and a single earned run across five innings in his collegiate debut on Sunday in a starting role against UMSL. Gus Collins and Murphy Bostick also received starts, while Izac Sizemore led out of the bullpen with 3.2 innings pitched and six strikeouts.

The Savage Storm head into Wednesday with a 1-2 record after defeating NSU and dropping matchups to Emporia State (8-5) and Central Oklahoma (9-3). The entirety of their pre-GAC schedule consists of games against MIAA opponents, as they host Arkansas-Fort Smith at Mike Metheny Field from Friday through Sunday. Brady Evans led SEOSU with four base hits in their first three games, while Wesley Mitchell has homered twice with seven RBI in that span of action. The pitching staff found four scoreless innings from Daniel Collins against Central Oklahoma in a starting role on Sunday, in addition to six strikeouts. Colton Clawson started Monday against NSU and allowed one earned run in four innings tossed. Michael White threw 3.1 innings from the SEOSU bullpen against Emporia State on Saturday and struck out five batters, while Ryan Rauss has tossed 2.2 innings across multiple appearances with four strikeouts.

Up next, NSU has an off weekend before hosting Southeastern Oklahoma State at Rousey Field on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. in their home opener.
