BENTONVILLE, Ark. –
Madison Heinle's bat and arm powered Northeastern State to an 8-4 win over Truman State on Friday afternoon. The senior homered for the second time of the day and struck out eight as the RiverHawks improved to 3-3.
Heinle (1-1) hit the go-ahead homer in the fifth, giving Northeastern State a 3-1 lead. She finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
The RiverHawks added two more runs on a passed ball in the fifth and held off a three-run sixth by Truman State.
Madison Nance cleared the bases in the bottom of the sixth for insurance runs.
Every Northeastern State batter reached base at least once.
Maddie Messenger scored twice and drew two walks as the RiverHawks out-hit Truman State 9-8.
Cassie Smith had three hits for Truman State, which fell to 2-4.
Northeastern State returns to the field at 11 a.m. Saturday to face Southern Arkansas at Bentonville High School.
