Softball Uses Strong Start to Defeat Northwest Missouri, 6-4

MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Northeastern State jumped out to an early lead and held off a late push from Northwest Missouri State to claim a 6-4 victory Saturday at Bearcat Softball Field.

The RiverHawks (8-17, 2-5 MIAA) struck first with two runs in the opening inning and added two more in the third to take control early. They tacked on runs in the sixth and seventh innings to maintain their lead.

Korynn Tindel led the NSU offense, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs scored. Lauryn Heinle added two hits, including a double, while Maddie Messenger drove in two runs. Olivia Brown also chipped in with an RBI double.

Madison Heinle (3-7) delivered a solid start in the circle, tossing six innings while allowing two earned runs on six hits. She struck out two and worked around five walks. Braedyn Sheofee entered in the seventh to close out the game, surrendering two runs on three hits.

Northwest Missouri (10-14, 0-3 MIAA) scored a run in the fifth and added three more in the final two innings to make things interesting. Grace Lubben hit a solo home run in the sixth, and Skylar Pieper's two-run double in the seventh pulled the Bearcats within two before Sheofee shut the door.
