GAME ONE | Arkansas Tech 8, Northeastern State 2
Northeastern State couldn't keep pace with Arkansas Tech's early offensive surge, falling 8-2 in Tuesday's series opener at RiverHawks Park.
The RiverHawks (9-18) jumped out to an early lead, scoring in the first inning, but the Golden Suns (14-8) responded with a four-run third inning and never looked back. Arkansas Tech tallied eight hits and capitalized on five hit batters and four walks issued by NSU pitching.
Charlea Cochran led NSU at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two RBI, including a two-out single in the sixth inning to drive in the RiverHawks' second run.
Korynn Tindel and
Lauryn Heinle each had a hit, with Heinle adding a double and scoring a run. Tindel swiped three bases and scored once, continuing to lead the RiverHawks' aggressive baserunning efforts.
Madison Heinle (3-8) started in the circle for NSU, allowing five runs (four earned) on four hits over 2.1 innings.
Ryleigh Peters came in for relief, tossing 4.2 innings while surrendering three runs on four hits and striking out one.
Arkansas Tech's Shelby Turner paced the Golden Suns offensively, hitting a solo home run and reaching base three times. Kylie Gibbins added a two-run triple, while starter Abby Dayberry earned the win, tossing five innings and allowing two runs on five hits.
GAME TWO | Arkansas Tech 9, Northeastern State 5 (8 innings)
Northeastern State's late rally wasn't enough as the RiverHawks fell 9-5 to Arkansas Tech in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader at RiverHawks Park.
The RiverHawks (9-19) jumped out early with runs in each of the first three innings, leading 4-2 after three.
Maddie Messenger led NSU at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
Korynn Tindel added two hits, scored twice, and swiped a base, while
Lauryn Heinle and
Macie Sawney each chipped in hits.
Arkansas Tech (16-15) took control in the later innings, scoring two runs in the sixth to tie the game and pulling ahead with a run in the seventh. The Golden Suns broke things open in the eighth, plating four runs on three hits, including back-to-back doubles from the middle of the lineup.
Gracie Turner (5-2) started in the circle for Northeastern State and struck out eight batters.Â
Tindel and Messenger combined to score three of NSU's five runs. NSU finished the day with eight hits and stranded six runners on base.
