TAHLEQUAH— Northeastern State baseball travels this week, facing Oklahoma Baptist on Tuesday (5 p.m.) in Shawnee and Central Oklahoma on Wednesday (3 p.m.) in Edmond before battling against Pittsburg State in a weekend series spanning Friday through Sunday in Pittsburg, Kan.
NSU (10-16, 7-6 MIAA) enters the week with five straight losses, including four against non-conference foe Drury in a series last weekend.
Key Players to Watch:
- Jackson Dillingham has recorded base hits in four straight games and homered twice in the Drury series last weekend. The junior has appeared in 22 games, starting 19 this season, hitting at a .315 average. The clip marks the second-highest among regulars in the lineup, while he is part of a four-way tie for the team lead in home runs with three.
- Diego Murillo collected two base hits in each of Saturday's contests in a doubleheader at Rousey Field against the Panthers and enters the week leading the team with 18 RBI.
- Braxton Jones made it through 6.2 innings in last Saturday's start against DU and has seen each of his last four starts last at least as much time. Pittsburg State will host NSU for three games at Al Ortolani Field after doing battle with Missouri Southern Tuesday in Joplin. The Gorillas exploded for 31 runs against Southwest Baptist in non-conference action last Tuesday in a 19-run victory (31-12), with Drew Bugner tying the school record with five hits in the one-sided triumph. PSU would go on to drop a three-game series to Fort Hays State over the weekend, claiming the middle game and dropping the opener and finale. PSU enters the week at 18-7 overall and 8-7 in MIAA action, owning the second-highest team batting average (.319) and runs scored total (230) on offense. The pitching staff is second in the association in earned run average (4.49), while walking the fewest batters (69) in the league and striking out the fourth-most (230).
