EDMOND, Okla. — A five-run effort in the seventh inning wasn't enough to take down Central Oklahoma, as Northeastern State fell in a 12-8 result Wednesday.
The RiverHawks (10-18, 7-7 MIAA) fell behind after the Bronchos (21-8, 11-6 MIAA) scored the game's first five runs across the first four innings. A two-run fifth for NSU was responded to by a score from the Bronchos in the bottom of the frame and three additional scores in the sixth, while the RiverHawks cut the deficit to two (9-7) with a five-run burst in the top of the seventh. UCO would hold on to the victory by claiming three runs in the last three frames, while NSU was held to one score in the eighth and blanked in the ninth.
The NSU bats landed 11 base hits, led by Colton Ayres with three, including a homer. Finley Bunch and Diego Murillo logged two hits apiece. On the mound, Holden Yaksick was assessed the loss after surrendering four earned runs in five innings from a starting role.
NSU begins a three-game series against Pittsburg State on Friday in Kansas.
