Softball swept by Hornets

Game One: Emporia State 12, Northeastern State 10

Despite a strong offensive showing, Northeastern State couldn't hold off a late surge from Emporia State, falling 12-10.

The RiverHawks (5-12, 0-3 MIAA) tallied 13 hits and led 6-4 after four innings, but the Hornets (15-9, 2-1 MIAA) broke through with five runs in the sixth to take control.

Korynn Tindel led NSU's offense, going 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI. Macie Sawney added two hits and scored twice, while Maddie Messenger also drove in two runs.

Northeastern State struck first with a run in the opening inning and added another in the second. After Emporia State tied the game at 2-2 in the third, the RiverHawks answered with a four-run fourth inning, highlighted by Messenger's RBI single and Tindel's two-run double.

However, Emporia State's offense erupted in the sixth, sending nine batters to the plate and scoring five runs on four hits, including a two-run double from Ally Miller. The Hornets added two more insurance runs in the seventh.

NSU attempted a late rally in the bottom of the seventh, scoring on a wild pitch and an RBI groundout, but the comeback fell short.

Tindel (0-2) took the loss in relief.

Game Two: Emporia State 8, Northeastern State 0 (5 innings)

Sydney Wagner got the scoring started with an RBI double, followed by two-run singles from Haley Garnett and Leslie Ramos. The Hornets added a run in the second and another in the fifth to secure the run-rule victory.
