TAHLEQUAH -- Northeastern State tested its depth and lineup combinations Sunday in an exhibition doubleheader against Central Arkansas, gaining valuable midseason experience despite falling 4-0 and 7-0.
The Bears (7-5) claimed both matches but were challenged in doubles play. In the opening match, Annika Kleinhans and Sofia Kotliarova were locked in a 4-4 battle on court two before UCA clinched the doubles point. In the second match, Camila de Michele and Barbora Havlova pushed their opponents to a tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles before falling 7-6.
Kotliarova made her debut at No. 2 singles, competing well and winning five games in both sets. Havlova earned a first-set victory at No. 6 singles in the morning match before falling in three sets.
Senior Josie Jarvis made her RiverHawks tennis debut at No. 6 singles in the afternoon contest, winning two games. A recent addition to the roster, Jarvis played for NSU's women's soccer team for two seasons but previously competed in tennis overseas.
The exhibition provided NSU an opportunity to rotate players and experiment with different pairings as they prepare for the second half of the season.
Northeastern State returns to action Thursday with a non-conference matchup at Arkansas Tech.
