HAYS, Kan. – Northeastern State was limited to two hits and shut out 2-0 by Fort Hays State in Friday's series opener.
The RiverHawks (11-26, 8-14 MIAA) struck out nine times and advanced just one runner into scoring position, which came in the fifth inning.
Fort Hays State (25-9, 19-4 MIAA) scored single runs in the second and third innings. Despite leaving 12 runners on base, the Tigers held on for the win.
Braxton Jones started for NSU, throwing 111 pitches over five innings. Drake Sisemore followed with three scoreless innings of relief, allowing just one hit.
The series continues Saturday at 3 p.m.
