TAHLEQUAH -- Northeastern State returns to the road in non-conference play to battle Oklahoma Baptist in Shawnee on Tuesday (4/6 p.m.).
The RiverHawks (15-29, 8-14 MIAA) split last Friday's doubleheader against #23 Pittsburg State at RiverHawks Park.
Key Players to Watch:
- Korynn Tindel went the distance in a start from the circle against PSU on Friday in the late game, while she added two base hits and two runs in the opener. Tindel has logged a complete game in three of her last four pitching starts, while she has multiple base hits in five of her last six appearances.
- Lauryn Heinle had three base hits in Friday's doubleheader against the Gorillas and has recorded a hit in four straight games. The freshman has additionally scored a run in each of her last three.
- Maddie Messenger homered Friday against the Gorillas for her fifth of the season to tie for the team lead. She enters a matchup against an OBU team that she recorded two base hits against last year, including a double.
The RiverHawks face Oklahoma Baptist (27-15) and seek their first win against the Bison since Mar. 4, 2001. OBU is 8-2 in true home games this season, while they are 2-4 against MIAA opponents.Â
The Bison are tied for third in the Great American Conference (GAC) in batting average, while they hold a strong +15 for the conference lead  in home runs (54). OBU possesses three hitters who own batting averages at .398 or higher, led by Sammie Greene (.412), who owns the third-highest clip in the GAC, as well as the second-most home runs (11) and the third-most steals (34).
The pitching staff is fifth in earned run average (3.48) and has 243 strikeouts on the campaign, the fifth-most in the league. Jaycee Shaffer has been credited with 15 of the team's 27 wins on the year and has struck out 137 batters, the second-most in the GAC.
