RiverHawks Gear Up for Pivotal Home Stand

TAHLEQUAH – With an MIAA postseason berth hanging in the balance, the Northeastern State Women's Tennis team is set to close out its home schedule with a high-stakes trio of matches, running Wednesday through Friday.

The RiverHawks (5-8, 3-1 MIAA) kick things off against Northwest Missouri in a rescheduled match originally set for two weeks ago before rain had other plans. History adds an extra layer to this one—while NSU has taken the last two postseason meetings, the Bearcats have controlled recent regular-season play, winning the last four. Northwest Missouri (9-7, 4-1 MIAA) rolls into Tahlequah riding a three-match win streak.

On Thursday, the intensity ratchets up as NSU hosts in-state rival Central Oklahoma (7-5, 3-2 MIAA) in what will be the 37th all-time showdown between the two programs. The Bronchos have split their last four outings and come off a 5-2 win over Missouri Western in Edmond last Saturday.

NSU wraps up its home stand Friday against Newman. The Jets (5-12, 1-3 MIAA) will visit Arkansas-Fort Smith the day before heading to Tahlequah. All five of Newman's victories have come at home—they're 0-11 on the road this season.

Leading the charge for the RiverHawks, Annika Kleinhans has been clutch down the stretch, winning six of her last nine singles matches. Meanwhile, Tegan Heaton continues to make waves nationally, sitting at No. 57 in the singles rankings.
