TAHLEQUAH -- Northeastern State landed a pair of scores in the opening inning and in the bottom of the fifth, but fell victim to a 20-4 defeat in the finale of a three-game series to Emporia State.
The RiverHawks (12-31, 9-20 MIAA) landed the early advantage with an
Austin Rees RBI single and a sacrifice fly from
Xavier Sanchez to score
Gage Williams, but the Hornets (21-19, 14-15 MIAA) would respond with 16 unanswered runs spanning the next four innings offensively. NSU got back on the board with a two-RBI double from Rees, but it would be their last plated runs on the night.Â
Rees accounted for three of the team's six base hits and was responsible for three of NSU's four runs in the loss, while
Mason Ruiz,
Gage Williams and
Austin Albright also logged hits during the game.
Izac Sizemore started from the mound and was assessed the loss after allowing six runs in three innings.
The RiverHawks return to the field on Wednesday when they face Central Oklahoma in Edmond to start a four-game road trip.
