RiverHawks Wrap Regular Season With Road Swing in Kansas

TAHLEQUAH -- Northeastern State will close its regular season in Kansas with a visit to Washburn on Friday, followed by a matchup at Emporia State on Saturday.

With a two-match lead and head-to-head tiebreakers over Fort Hays State and Newman—both currently outside the top six—the RiverHawks will be playing for seeding in the upcoming MIAA Tournament in Springfield, Missouri.

Washburn (15-2, 6-1 MIAA), ranked No. 13 nationally, will host the RiverHawks while boasting a 9-1 home record. The Ichabods' only home loss came in a 4-3 battle against second-ranked Midwestern State. Northeastern State leads the all-time series 15-6, having won the first 15 meetings between the programs.

Emporia State (8-9, 3-4 MIAA) will need a win Friday over Arkansas-Fort Smith to clinch a spot in the MIAA Tournament. The Hornets are 5-1 at home, while the RiverHawks hold a 13-2 advantage in the series.

Tegan Heaton has climbed to No. 47 nationally in singles and owns three victories this spring over ranked opponents. Sofia Kotliarova enters the weekend riding a four-match singles winning streak.
