TAHLEQUAH -- Northeastern State softball wraps up the regular season by clashing with #15 Rogers State on Senior Day, with the doubleheader beginning Saturday at 11 p.m. and continuing with game two at 1 p.m.
Saturday's Senior Day festivities will feature the recognition of seniors Drew Hawkins, Madison Heinle, Macie Sawney and Delia Smith, in addition to graduate assistant Hayleigh Galvan between games.
The RiverHawks (15-31, 8-14 MIAA) are in a tight battle for the last pair of MIAA postseason spots, sitting in a four-way tie for ninth entering the final weekend of the regular season. The top ten teams advance to a single-elimination tournament in Hays, Kan., beginning on Wednesday, Apr. 30.
Key Players to Watch:
- Madison Heinle is set to make her final home appearance with the program on Saturday. Earlier in the season, Heinle became the first NSU individual to cross 300 career strikeouts since 2021, while she owns 30 career wins from the circle. At the plate, Heinle has set career bests this season in base hits (34), doubles (seven) and home runs (three).Â
- Drew Hawkins will play in her final home doubleheader across her NSU career Saturday. A mainstay in the outfield, Hawkins has made 117 starts with the program and has seen her most productive season offensively in 2025, holding career highs in hits (29), walks drawn (11) and stolen bases (seven).
- Macie Sawney has been an integral part of the outfield, with 84 starts with the program entering the weekend. Across her two-season NSU career, Sawney holds 17 steals, the second-most on the team across that span, in addition to 56 base hits and 23 RBI offensively.Â
Rogers State (33-12, 14-8 MIAA) enters their final regular season doubleheader with wins in six of their last seven, most recently splitting a non-conference date with Harding on Monday. Eight of the team's 12 losses have occurred in away and neutral site games, though they swept the most recent road doubleheader against NSU back in 2023. Rogers State has won six straight in the series heading into Saturday. The Hillcats also hold a two-game edge in the all-time series, winning 13 of 24 meetings dating back to 2014.
The Hillcats are third in the MIAA in batting average (.313) and runs scored (270), while they lead in home runs (51). Abbey Rogers is second in the MIAA and sixth nationally in batting average (.483). Meanwhile, the offense also boasts four of the league's top ten home run hitters, led by Callie Yellen (12), who sits in fourth. The pitching staff is fifth in earned run average (2.53) and is tied for fifth in strikeouts (251). Jade Sanders is sixth individually among qualifiers in ERA (2.15) and is seventh in innings pitched (130.1), while Harley Culie is third in innings pitched (138.1) and eighth in strikeouts (113).
