RiverHawks Split Doubleheader at Fort Hays State

HAYS, Kan. -- Korynn Tindel tallied five hits and earned a win in the circle as Northeastern State split an MIAA doubleheader with Fort Hays State on Sunday. The RiverHawks took the opener 4-2 before falling 5-1 in the nightcap.

Tindel, a redshirt sophomore, extended her hitting streak to seven games as NSU moved to 13-27 overall and 6-12 in MIAA play.

In game one, the RiverHawks trailed 2-1 entering the seventh inning before Charlea Cochran and Drew Hawkins sparked a rally with back-to-back hits. After a foul out, Macie Sawney delivered the eventual game-winning hit with a single up the middle, scoring both runners. Lauryn Heinle added an insurance run with an infield single later in the inning.

Tindel (2-4) needed just 94 pitches in the complete-game victory, allowing one earned run.

In game two, Hawkins drove in NSU's only run with a double down the left-field line in the fourth inning. Tindel continued her strong day at the plate with a pair of triples and a three-hit performance, but the RiverHawks were hindered by three errors and left nine runners on base.

Gracie Turner (4-7) started in the circle, striking out two over 3.2 innings. Madison Heinle entered in relief during the fourth.

Fort Hays State (22-10, 7-5 MIAA) outhit the RiverHawks 10-8 to secure the split.

Northeastern State continues its road trip Monday with a doubleheader at Nebraska-Kearney. First pitch is set for 1 p.m
