Men's Golf in seventh at Palm Valley Classic

GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Northeastern State finished the first two rounds of the Palm Valley Classic with a 566 (281-285) to end the opening day of action at Palm Valley Golf Club in seventh across the 19-team event, scoring ten-under as a unit.

Currently, the RiverHawks have two players ranking inside the top 12 individually. Parker Rose shot a 138 (70-68) and led the team with ten birdies to tie for sixth after day one. Bliss Newton added nine birdies and sits a stroke back of his teammate at 139 (68-71). Brett Wilcoxen enters Tuesday with a spot inside the event's top 25 ladder, shooting a 142 (69-73), while Will Livermore landed a 148 (74-74) and Juan Vergel added a 152 (79-73), respectively. 

As a team, NSU sits nine strokes back of first-place Cal State East Bay, who shot a 557 (284-273). Midwestern State (560) and Chico State (561) round out the top three, while the RiverHawks are a stroke back from sixth-place Colorado Mesa (565). Colorado School of Mines occupies the final spot in the top five and is two strokes ahead of NSU after shooting a 564 (283-281) Monday. 

The third and final round of the tournament takes place tomorrow.
