Missouri Southern Tops Northeastern State in Extras, 4-3

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Missouri Southern hit a two-out double in the 10th inning to edge Northeastern State, 4-3, on Thursday evening.

The loss dealt a blow to the RiverHawks' postseason hopes, as Missouri Western defeated Central Oklahoma, 7-2, earlier in the night in Edmond. With two games remaining in the regular season, Northeastern State now trails Missouri Western by one game for the 10th and final spot in next week's MIAA Tournament in Joplin, Missouri.

The RiverHawks dropped to 14-34 overall and 11-23 in MIAA play with the loss.

Gage Williams launched his 10th home run of the season in the first inning to give NSU the early lead, then added his second RBI of the game in the third. Austin Rees tallied two hits and tied the game in the fifth with a double that scored Williams from second.

Colton Ayres recorded his fourth three-hit game of the season, and Holden Yoder extended his hitting streak to five games with a single in the fourth.

Drake Sisemore started his final game at Rousey Field, going five innings with five strikeouts and allowing two earned runs. Holden Yaksick (1-6) pitched the final five innings, giving up just one run — the game-winning single in the 10th.

Missouri Southern totaled 13 hits and stranded 11 runners while improving to 26-22 overall and 18-16 in the MIAA.

The series continues Friday with a 6 p.m. first pitch.
