KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Northeastern State's
Braxton Jones was named the MIAA Pitcher of the Week on Monday after a standout performance in his 13th start of the season.
The true freshman struck out eight batters and allowed just one run in the first inning, helping the RiverHawks secure a crucial 2-1 win over Missouri Southern on Friday night at Rousey Field — a victory that helped clinch NSU's spot in the MIAA Tournament.
Jones threw 104 pitches over 6.1 innings, with seven of his eight strikeouts coming in the first four frames.
He is the second Northeastern State player to earn MIAA weekly honors this season, joining
Holden Yoder, who received the league's top hitting recognition in February.
