RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. -- Northeastern State's Braxton Jones was named the Central Region Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Jones, a true freshman, also earned MIAA Pitcher of the Week honors Monday following a standout outing in his 13th start of the season.
He struck out eight batters and allowed just one run in the first inning, leading the RiverHawks to a pivotal 2-1 win over Missouri Southern on Friday night at Rousey Field—a victory that secured NSU's spot in the MIAA Tournament.
Jones threw 104 pitches over 6 1/3 innings, with seven of his eight strikeouts coming in the first four frames.
