Women's Soccer opens season on Friday hosting Ouachita Baptist

TAHLEQUAH -- Northeastern State opens its 30th season of women's soccer on Friday, hosting Ouachita Baptist.  The match marks the beginning of the regular season for both teams, with head coach Chase Wooten entering his 16th season as head coach of the RiverHawks.

The RiverHawks were picked to finish in fourth place in the MIAA and return five of their top six scorers from 2024.  Sydney Taylor paced NSU with 13 points and has 17 total goals in 57 matches played.

In season openers, Northeastern State has seen just one setback in its previous nine matches and has not lost a home opener since 2011.

History with the Tigers
- The RiverHawks are 17-3-2 against OBU and 9-0-2 when facing the Tigers in Tahlequah.  Northeastern State has not lost a match since 2007 to the Tigers and has not allowed more than one goal in the last 15 meetings.  Of the 22 contests with Ouachita Baptist, Northeastern State has pitched a shutout in 11 of them. 
- The Tigers are a regular non-conference opponent for the RiverHawks, as the two teams have met in every season since 2010, except the COVID-shortened 2020 season.

Scouting the Tigers
- OBU claimed the last two GAC Tournament titles and returns 16 letterwinners from the 2024 squad that made it to the NCAA tournament for the third time in program history.
- The Tigers were picked third in the GAC but claimed two first-place votes.

History with the Lady Bison
- Sunday will be the 25th meeting between the two programs, with the RiverHawks winning 11 of the last 12 against Harding.  At Harding, Northeastern State is 7-3 in the all-time series.

Scouting the Lady Bison
- Harding is favored to win the Great American Conference and earned four first-place votes. 
- The Lady Bison return six All-GAC selections and allowed just one goal per match in 2024.
