SHAWNEE –
Sydney Taylor scored her 20th career goal and extended her scoring streak to three straight matches, leading Northeastern State to a 2-0 victory over Oklahoma Baptist on Wednesday night at the OBU Soccer Complex.
The win also secured Head Coach
Chase Wooten his 200th career victory. He has now claimed 157 matches at NSU in 15 seasons, won 43 at Centenary.
Taylor broke through in the 39th minute, finishing a pass from
Brynn Baldon for her team-leading third goal of the season. Just over two minutes later, freshman
Mya Tran doubled the advantage with her first NSU score, giving the RiverHawks all the offense they would need.
Goalkeeper
Rebecca Partyka anchored the back line with four saves to record her second clean sheet of the year. Northeastern State (3-0) fired 12 shots, five on target, while holding Oklahoma Baptist (0-2-1) scoreless despite the Bison putting up 13 shots.
The RiverHawks' back line turned away multiple chances in the second half, including two shots in the final five minutes. Partyka stopped three attempts in the opening half and added another save after the break.
Northeastern State earned a pair of corner kicks in each half, while Oklahoma Baptist totaled four.
With the victory, the RiverHawks remain unbeaten through three matches for the second straight season. They will head next to Texas at Tyler this Saturday evening for a match at 6 p.m.
