WICHITA FALLS, Texas –
Eduardo Matos scored his first NSU career goal and
Cameron McColloch posted his second straight shutout as Northeastern State edged No. 24 Midwestern State 1-0 on Saturday night at Stang Park.
Matos buried a half-volley from 16 yards out in the 16th minute after a cleared corner fell to his feet, putting the RiverHawks ahead early. The strike stood as the game-winner, giving NSU (2-1-1) its first victory in Wichita Falls since 2016.
McColloch turned away three shots in the second half, including back-to-back saves on dangerous attempts by the Mustangs (1-1-2), to preserve the clean sheet. Midwestern State held a 10-8 edge in shots and earned six corner kicks after halftime, but couldn't break through.
The RiverHawks return home for their next match on Thursday evening, hosting St. Edward's.
