NSU Gains Valuable Experience in Exhibition

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — The Northeastern State women's tennis team opened its spring slate with a competitive exhibition match Tuesday night, falling 4-0 to Division I opponent Wyoming at the indoor courts of Indian Springs Country Club in Broken Arrow.

The RiverHawks held their own in doubles, with the duos of Daisy Barrow/Renata Morales and Lucia Bontempo/Sofia Kotliarova battling to 6-3 scorelines before the Cowgirls secured the doubles point. At No. 3, Ayla Guentekin and Laura Mertens put up a strong effort in a 6-1 result.

In singles action, NSU gained valuable reps in the top three spots before Wyoming clinched the match. The RiverHawks showed flashes of their potential and welcomed the challenge of facing a seasoned D-I squad.

The RiverHawks will continue exhibition play on Feb. 4, traveling to Missouri State for another early-season tune-up as they prepare for regular-season action.
