PITTSBURG, Kan. --
Xavier Glenn dropped 20 points, but Northeastern State couldn't complete the comeback in a 93-77 road loss to Pittsburg State on Wednesday night at John Lance Arena.
It was Glenn's 11th game this season, scoring at least 20 for the RiverHawks (11-8, 4-6 MIAA), who saw a valiant second-half rally fall short against a red-hot Gorillas squad.
Pittsburg State (12-7, 6-3) opened up a dominant 21-point lead with just over six minutes left in the first half, capitalizing on seven made triples to take a 48-31 advantage at halftime.
Northeastern State came out swinging after the break, gradually cutting the deficit to five with just under eight minutes left in regulation, behind Glenn and a flurry of interior scoring.
Nehemiah Weber added 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting, while
Ethan Blackmon scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Just when the RiverHawks seemed poised to flip the script, Pitt State slammed the door shut — hitting 7 of its final 9 shots and outscoring NSU 17-6 down the stretch. Mason English led the Gorillas with 27 points, while Ethan Sage chipped in 16 and Donald Coats had 11 off the bench.
Pitt State shot 59.4% from the field and outrebounded NSU 35-26.
Northeastern State will look to regroup and finish the road swing strong on Saturday, when it visits Missouri Southern for a 3:30 p.m. tipoff.
