TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (Jan. 3, 2026) — Pittsburg State outlasted Northeastern State in a wild overtime battle, 98-95, Saturday at the NSU Event Center.
The RiverHawks built a 13-point lead in the early in the second half and appeared in command much of the game, but turnovers and clutch play by the Gorillas allowed Pittsburg State to claw back and ultimately prevail. Northeastern State turned the ball over 18 times, and Pitt State converted those miscues into 23 points, a decisive factor in the outcome.
Xavier Glenn again led the RiverHawks' offense, scoring 24 points — his fourth straight game with at least 20.
Ethan Blackmon matched him, posting his second straight double-double and the 10th of his career with 24 points and 12 rebounds. A.J. Reed Jr. added 18 points, and
Nehemiah Weber chipped in 12.
NSU shot 50.7% from the field but struggled from deep (5 of 16) and saw its efficiency drop in overtime, finishing 1 of 9 from long range in the extra period. Despite the team's overall strong shooting, the costly turnovers kept Pittsburg State within striking distance throughout the second half.
Pittsburg State was paced by Mason English's 31 points and Connor Rogers' 17, with Ethan Sage adding 13. The Gorillas erased the deficit behind balanced scoring and six ties over the contest before outlasting the RiverHawks in overtime.
Northeastern State (8-5, 1-3 MIAA) will aim to regroup quickly as they hit the road Wednesday at Central Oklahoma. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
