Volleyball Returns to The Nest for Matches Against Emporia, Pitt State

TAHLEQUAH -- Northeastern State volleyball returns home for a pair of matches inside the NSU Event Center, hosting No. 19 Emporia State on Friday (6 p.m.) before battling Pittsburg State on Saturday (6 p.m.).

After the conclusion of Friday's match, stick around for a free poster signing event featuring the NSU volleyball team. Report to the court and find the NSU volleyball table opposite the VIP section and claim a free poster, autographed by NSU volleyball.

NSU (1-16, 0-6 MIAA) enters Friday's action with nine straight losses and are in search of the program's first home win since relaunching this season, in addition to the program's first MIAA victory. Ashlyn Tag led NSU with 14 kills during last week's two-match road trip to Nebraska Kearney and Fort Hays State and has a team-high 95 kills for the season. Sydney Dunkleberger had 19 assists in the match against the Tigers, her second-most in an MIAA contest this season. The sophomore leads the team with 231 assists entering Friday. Poliana Lazarini leads the team with 117 digs and recorded nine digs in the loss to UNK last Friday.

Emporia State (15-3, 2-2 MIAA) enters Friday off of a tight five-set defeat at the hands of Washburn, causing the Hornets to bump backwards two spots in the latest AVCA Top 25 poll to No. 19 from No. 17. The Hornets average 14.1 kills per set, third in the MIAA. Lavra Krizanic leads the team with 224 kills, averaging 3.56 per set. Krizanic enters Friday with at least 10 kills in her last nine matches.

Pittsburg State (12-6, 0-4 MIAA) seeks its first conference win on Friday against Arkansas-Fort Smith before traveling to Tahlequah for Saturday's matchup. Across four conference matches, the Gorillas average 11.4 kills per set, ninth in the MIAA. Crystal Smith has led the Gorillas with 62 kills across MIAA action and 205 for the season, including 20 against Washburn last Friday. For the season, the Gorillas have been one of the league's more efficient attacking teams, holding the MIAA's third-best hitting percentage (.255).
