HAYS, Kan. — Brandon Fuenmayor delivered the game-winning goal with 25 seconds remaining to lift Northeastern State past Rogers State in the GAC/MIAA Semifinals, clinching the RiverHawks a spot in the conference championship match. The victory also marks NSU's first conference postseason win since 2021.
The RiverHawks (8-9-1) and Hillcats (9-5-5) were nearly even in shots throughout the match, with NSU producing eight attempts to RSU's nine in a scoreless opening half. The Hillcats added eight attempts in the second half, but Cameron McColloch turned away all six shots on goal before the decisive moment.
NSU applied pressure in the closing seconds, with Jack Smith and Carter Adams each recording a shot before Mason Winters found Fuenmayor for the game-winner, securing the victory for the third-seeded RiverHawks over the second-seeded Hillcats.
The RiverHawks will meet the bracket's top seed, Fort Hays State, in the GAC/MIAA Championship match on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 12 p.m.
