Pair’s Ninth-Inning Homer Not Enough in 8-5 Loss to Truman

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Northeastern State tallied 10 hits and struck out 15 Truman batters but fell 8-5 to the Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon.

The RiverHawks (4-5) opened the scoring in the first inning, as Jaxon Gregory singled and later scored on an RBI groundout by Stephen Osborne, giving them a 1-0 lead. Truman answered with two runs in the second and added two more in the third to take control.

NSU cut into the deficit in the fourth inning. Carson Miller tripled to center and scored on a sacrifice fly by Trout He. Later in the frame, Tregan Hyder delivered an RBI triple to right field, trimming the margin to 7-3.

Miller finished 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, while Hyder added two hits, two stolen bases, and an RBI. Klete Finley reached base three times and swiped three bags. Chance Pair provided a late spark with a two-run home run in the ninth inning.

Hudson Birch led the pitching effort with 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief and four strikeouts.

Northeastern State returns to action Friday, Feb. 20, hosting Central Missouri in its MIAA opener.
