BOLIVAR, Mo. --
Korynn Tindel blasted her third home run of the season, but Northeastern State fell to Southwest Baptist, 8-5, Saturday afternoon at SBU Softball Field.
The RiverHawks (7-7) erased a one-run deficit in the sixth when Tindel led off the inning with a solo shot to even the score at 3-3. Tindel finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs to pace NSU at the plate.
Southwest Baptist (2-7) responded with a five-run bottom of the sixth to seize control. After taking advantage of a Northeastern State error to go ahead 4-3, the Bearcats broke the game open with a pinch-hit grand slam, extending the lead to 8-3.
NSU scored single runs in the second and fifth innings.
Mattison Hamilton went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while the RiverHawks collected seven hits and drew five walks.
The RiverHawks mounted a late rally in the seventh, plating two runs on Tindel's RBI single and a run-scoring fielder's choice by
Annsleigh Morris, but could not close the gap.
Jensyn Elder (5-4) took the loss, striking out six in 5 2/3 innings.
