EDMOND, Okla. — Northeastern State opened its 2026 spring slate Friday afternoon, falling 5–2 to No. 17 Texas-Tyler at Edmond Center Court.
Daisy Barrow recorded a pair of victories for the RiverHawks, teaming with
Renata Morales for a 7–5 win at No. 1 doubles before cruising to a 6–2, 6–2 decision at No. 3 singles. Freshman
Laura Mertens added a singles point for NSU with a hard-fought 6–3, 0–6, 7–6 win at the No. 4 position.
The Patriots secured the doubles point with wins on courts two and three, then clinched the match with four singles victories. NSU (0–1) dropped its first dual of the season, while Texas-Tyler improved to 3–1 overall.
"Really great effort from this group today," said head coach
Tim McLane. "For us to have three players out and still take two points off a top 20 opponent is a big effort; their coaches are really happy with the way they competed today."
Northeastern State will return to action Sunday at noon, traveling to Drury for a non-conference match in Springfield, Missouri.
