TAHLEQUAH — Both Northeastern State tennis teams host Midwestern State on Thursday at 2 p.m. before the men's tennis team takes on Southern Arkansas in Magnolia, Ark. on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Thursday marks a ranked test to the NSU women (5-2), who put their five-match winning streak on the line against an MSU foe that holds the #12 spot in the latest ITA rankings. The RiverHawks hold a 17-6 lead in the all-time series but have lost the last three, entering Thursday seeking their first win over the Mustangs since 2016.
Most recently, the NSU women earned a 7-0 decision against CSU Pueblo on Feb. 27 in Edmond, Okla. to claim their longest winning streak since 2019. They faced Division I North Dakota in an exhibition last Sunday.
Strong doubles play has been a component of the team's success lately, highlighted by the duo of Renata Morales and Daisy Barrow, who climbed to #26 nationally in the latest ITA rankings. The RiverHawks have also won their last six in No. 2 singles play and their last five in No. 6 singles competition.
The NSU men (3-3) saw a three-match win streak snapped on Sunday in a competitive showing against North Dakota. The RiverHawks claimed a pair of decisions in singles competition in a 5-2 loss. Alexander Edley heads into Thursday with four straight singles wins individually.
The MSU men sit in the #27 spot in the latest ITA rankings, while the SAU men hold the #46 spot. The Saturday matchup in Arkansas marks NSU's first match away from Tahlequah since Feb. 13, in addition to their conference opener.
