EMPORIA, Kan. -- Northeastern State fell in the late matchup of a doubleheader against Emporia State on Saturday, seeing their five-game winning streak come to an end in an 8-3 final.
Emporia State (16-7, 3-1 MIAA) would be on the attack early, pouncing with four runs in the first to never trail in the contest.
Jayln Fourkiller had an RBI single to center field in the second frame, while NSU's lone answers the rest of the way were in the sixth inning.
Emily Carpenter produced an RBI double and
Annsleigh Morris brought an additional run home after being hit by a pitch. ESU would plate a pair of runs in the third and fifth, respectively.
Mia Sarwinski had a four-hit performance in the loss. Fourkiller added three and
Peyton Watson contributed two base hits, as well. In defeat, the RiverHawks (16-9, 3-1 MIAA) outhit the Hornets 13-to-11.
Gracie Turner was handed the loss after allowing four earned runs without logging an out.
The RiverHawks return home to host Missouri Western on Friday, beginning at 3 p.m. The hosting assignment is the first of a five-date homestand for Northeastern State.
