TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Northeastern State used a steady offensive surge and solid pitching to defeat Newman 7-2 on Friday afternoon at RiverHawks Park.
The RiverHawks improved to 19-11 (6-3 MIAA) on the season, overcoming an early two-run deficit with runs in five of the final six innings.
Newman struck first with a pair of runs in the opening inning, but Northeastern State answered in the second as
Annsleigh Morris led off the frame with a solo home run to cut the deficit in half.
NSU took control in the fourth inning when
Halle Hance delivered a two-run home run to give the RiverHawks a 3-2 lead. The RiverHawks added three more runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by RBI contributions from
Mia Sarwinski,
Peyton Watson and Morris to extend the advantage.
Hance continued her strong performance with a triple in the sixth and later scored on an RBI single from
Emily Carpenter to cap the scoring for Northeastern State.
Morris finished 3-for-3 with a home run, double and two RBI, while Hance added two hits, including a home run and triple, with two RBI.

Brooke Wyatt (3-3) earned the win, allowing two runs on three hits over five innings.
Jensyn Elder closed the game with two scoreless innings in relief.
