SHAWNEE, Okla. -- Northeastern State dropped a 17-6 decision to Oklahoma Baptist on Tuesday afternoon at Bobby Cox Field.
The RiverHawks (4-13) tallied 10 hits but were unable to overcome a pair of big early innings by the Bison (8-9), who scored five runs in the first and four in the second to take control.
Oklahoma Baptist opened the scoring with a leadoff home run in the first and added four more runs on five hits in the frame. The Bison extended the lead to 9-1 in the second behind a three-run home run.
NSU got on the board in the second inning when
Chance Pair delivered an RBI single to score
Stephen Osborne. The RiverHawks added a run in the third on a sacrifice fly from
Xavier Sanchez, plating
Jaxon Gregory.
Northeastern State's biggest offensive surge came in the sixth.
Carson Miller doubled to begin the inning, and Gregory later tripled to right field, driving in three runs. Gregory scored on a wild pitch to cap a four-run frame and trim the deficit to 13-6.
Gregory finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, while
Klete Finley added two hits.
The Bison added four runs in the seventh to seal the win.
The RiverHawks return to action Friday for a three-game series against Newman.
