TAHLEQUAH -- Northeastern State returns home for a three-game MIAA baseball series against Newman beginning Saturday at 5 p.m. The series was pushed back one day due to the possibility of inclement weather.
The RiverHawks (4-13, 0-6 MIAA) will be seeking their first conference victory against a Newman squad they have won eight of their last ten games against. Despite several close contests this spring, Northeastern State has seen late-inning leads slip away.
Thomas Brownfield held Missouri Southern hitless through five innings before a lightning delay forced him off the mound. Similarly, NSU carried a two-run lead into the ninth inning against top-10 ranked Central Missouri but was unable to hold the advantage.
Xavier Sanchez leads the RiverHawks at the plate with a .448 batting average, while
Klete Finley owns the team's highest OPS at 1.295 and has swiped 10 bases.
Newman (3-14, 1-6 MIAA) was swept by Central Missouri last weekend in Warrensburg and trails the RiverHawks 8-2 in games played at Rousey Field. The Jets are batting .229 as a team, while their pitching staff is allowing more than nine runs per game.
Sunday's first pitch against the Jets is scheduled for 2 p.m., with the series concluding Monday at 1 p.m.
