TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — The Northeastern State tennis program is set to host Division I North Dakota for a doubleheader Sunday in Tahlequah. The RiverHawks men will face the Fighting Hawks at 11 a.m., followed by the women's match at 3 p.m.
The Northeastern State men (3-2) enter the matchup on a three-match winning streak, with Sunday's contest counting toward their overall record. It will mark the first time since 1993 that the program has hosted a Division I opponent. The last time NSU faced a Division I team was in 1999, when they played Arkansas and Oklahoma in early-season matches in March.
During their current winning streak, the RiverHawks have claimed victories in the top three singles positions in each match. NSU was originally scheduled to play at Rockhurst this week, but that match was postponed due to weather and rescheduled for April 1 in Kansas City.
North Dakota (8-6) will open Summit League play Friday at Oral Roberts before traveling to Tahlequah to face the RiverHawks.
The Northeastern State women (5-2) have won five straight matches for the first time since 2019. Sunday's contest will be their third matchup against a Division I opponent this spring. As with the previous two, the match will not count toward NSU's overall record.
The match will count for North Dakota, which enters the weekend with a 6-7 record. The Fighting Hawks are 2-1 against Division II opponents this season.
