Box Score TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — The Northeastern State men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to NCAA Division I North Dakota on Sunday, as the Fighting Hawks used its doubles performance and four singles victories to secure the nonconference matchup.
North Dakota opened the day by claiming the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Leo Galliano and Walker Valentine defeated
Alexander Edley and
Mansur Khajimuradov 6-2 at the top spot, while Justin Ilic and Cole Wilber earned a 6-3 victory over
Tomas Aramburu and
Ko Osuga at No. 3 doubles. The No. 2 doubles match was left unfinished.
Northeastern State answered with two wins in singles play.
Alexander Edley picked up a straight-set victory over Ilic, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 3 singles to put the RiverHawks on the board. Aramburu added NSU's second point with a convincing 6-2, 6-1 win against Wilber at the No. 5 position.
North Dakota sealed the team victory with wins at Nos. 1, 2, 4 and 6 singles. Galliano rallied past
James Edley in three sets at No. 1 singles, while Darrshan Suresh Kumar, Christo Alex and Nikita Sclearenco each recorded straight-set wins.
With the result, Northeastern State moves to 3-3 on the season.
The RiverHawks return home Thursday, March 12, when they host MSU Texas in Tahlequah.
