TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — North Dakota swept the completed matches Sunday in a women's tennis dual against Northeastern State, winning five singles contests and two doubles results in a matchup that counted for the Fighting Hawks but served as an exhibition for the RiverHawks.
North Dakota took control early by winning two of the three doubles courts. Ethel Li and Jule Schulte defeated Sofiia Kotliarova and
Renata Morales 6-4 at No. 1 doubles, and Alyssa Giupponi and Emma Roberts followed with a 6-1 victory over Camila De Michele Garzon and
Laura Mertens at No. 3. The No. 2 doubles match between Alva Norberg and Linn Svaerd and NSU's
Lucia Bontempo and Kotliarova went unfinished.
In singles play, the Fighting Hawks won each completed court.
Li opened singles with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Kotliarova at No. 1. Schulte added a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Morales at No. 2, while Norberg defeated Mertens 7-6, 6-1 at No. 3.
Giupponi claimed a tight match at No. 4 singles, edging
Daisy Barrow 7-5, 6-7, 10-8 in a match tiebreaker. Roberts then secured a 6-2, 6-2 win over Bontempo at No. 5.
The No. 6 singles match between NSU's
Carla Alvarez Perez and North Dakota's Simone Cameron was abandoned with Alvarez Perez leading 6-2, 5-4.
Northeastern State returns to action March 12 when the RiverHawks host MSU Texas.
